Mt. Whitney Cemetery, Lone Pine, Inyo County, California
Some
Cemetery Stones Created from
Dolomite* Quarried from Local
Quarries
Several of the cemetery stones located in the Mt. Whiney Cemetery
that I photographed below were constructed of locally quarried dolomite.
(These photographs were taken by Pat and Peggy
B. Perazzo in late September 2010.) You can learn more about Inyo
County Cemeteries on the Inyo
County CAGenWeb Project web site presented by Denise S.
Flynn, County Coordinator. (* In the old
geology books, the stone quarried near Lone Pine was referred to as “marble,” but
today the stone is only referred to as “dolomite” in the
Lone Pine area.)
