Born in Oakland, Cal., August 7, 1883; son of Frederick Erwin and Jennie Allen (Staley) Knowles. attended public and private schools in Oakland, Cal,; Heald’s Business College, San Francisco, Cal., 1903-1904.  Served apprenticeship at stone-cuting (sic) Raymond, Cal., 1898-1903; moved to Los Angeles, Ca., 1909, and engaged in stone contracting business at 781 Lyon st., which he has continued to date under name of Raymond Stone Co.; doing all sorts of stone work from monuments to largest buildings; did stone work on the Los Angeles Times Bldg., same on Merchants National Bank Bldg., architect Times Memorial at Hollywood and many prominent mausoleums in city and vicinity. Member Union League and Gamut clubs; Chamber of Commerce; Builder's Exchange. Methodist.”
